You also need a way to mark a facet as irrelevant.Ĭrudely you can implement these with constructs like WEA:Cloudy but then you still have to be able to search for images that don't have WEA:* as a keyword. If you do facets, you need a way to search for images that don't have an entry for facet X. Weather makes no sense for an interior shot. ![]() I prefer to go through a set of images several times, concentrating on one of these at a time. Usage: Have you sold exclusive rights for this image? Exclusive for 18 months for a calendar? One or more classes of description about the scene - weather, mood. (Woman with child Young boy.)ĭescribe the technical aspects - close up, high/low key, lighting GPS is fine, but "Lock Ness, Scotland" or Kensington market, Toronto, Ontario, Canada is easier to visualize. If, in addition to some general keywords for the batch you add a few per image you have a big win. You still may have a bunch to wade through. Search for holiday and focal distance less than 5 feet. If all your holiday shots are tagged 'Holiday' and your program can search existing metadata, your problem is solved. It was an incidental pic on some holiday, but which one. Tagger But what do you do when you are looking for the closeup of a butterfly. Often remembering that the shot took place on your trip to Italy, or that it was the Smith & Brown wedding is sufficient. ![]() Many people will use some combination of Year/Month/ and string to describe event. Version tracker - ability to keep track of derived images.īrowser Pix initially come in in bunches, and as such they go somewhere in some folder structure on your computer. Searcher - use complex searches to narrow down what I look at. Tagger - add metadata either singly or in batches. So let's look at what I mean by a photo manager: I'm starting to avoid the word 'DAM' as it increasingly refers to industrial sized software costing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. I've been thinking a lot about photo management. The original $40.00 it cost to switch to AFFINITY is not enough to not abandon it in favour of having a solution that just works, end to end.Ĭurrently using Apple Aperture. If you want the base to stay with you SERIF, get on the ball and get the software released already. Sure, they're a bit dated, but the quality of image enhancement is still high-quality and my need for the ability to manage a large library of images demands my attention in a format that I can rely on, and work with on a daily basis, without adding to an already busy workload. It is their lack of such that is forcing me to return to PHOTOSHOP 6 and LIGHTROOM 5.5. SERIF really needs to step up to the plate and get their version of some form of DAM software published already. ![]() due to the "proprietary" nature of the AFFINITY file format, NONE of the free applications you've mentioned, nor many of the available "pay-for-play" applications available, and many of which are very capable, DO NOT read the Affinity file format natively and are therefore not really suitable choices. just a short list of some common is shown for example here. Beside that there are a bunch of photo managers etc. This enabled me to process my images without Photolab 2, similar to when I could use Capture NX2.Download the Nikon NEF codec and NRW codec for Windows from the Nikon software download website, install those and afterwards IrfanView is still a fast responder for those RAW formats. Since opening the file in Nikon Capture NX-D I noticed that there are now NIK type local corrections (control points) provided in this software. Has anyone experienced this strange file behaviour with PhotoLab 2 and if so, what is the fix? I haven’t opened a support call as I’d like a prompt solution rather than a “we’re working on it” reply. So I went back to my original iMac folders and deleted every sidecar file. All of these opened fine! So, I copied some of these unsupported images to my Macbook Pro and opened them in Photolab 2 without any problems. So I tried opening these same images in the following software: Luminar 3, Aurora HDR 2018, Nikon Capture NXi/NX-D and Affinity Photo. It may be corrupted or in an unsupported format. This image cannot be processed because of an unknown error. However the other photos taken with the same camera/lens combination gives the following error: The DxO module for my camera/lens downloaded and they look great. I wanted to process them recently so I opened up Photolab 2 2.2 and searched for my Z6 folder, they all showed up but only one of them showed any images. ![]() I transferred the images that I had taken in various days out to my iMac and put them into named folders. I recently purchased a Nikon Z6 with 24-70mm F/4 lens.
